e Rainbow BridgeAuthor Unknown

There is a bridge connecting heaven and earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colours. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge is a land of meadows, hill and valleys, all of it covered with lush green grass.

When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this lovely land. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. Those who are maimed are made whole once more. They play all day with each other, content and comfortable.

There is only one thing missing. They are not with the special person who loved them on Earth. So each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up! Then, the nose twitches! The ears are up! The eyes are staring! You have been seen, and that one suddenly runs from the group!

You take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again, and again and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.

Then, together, you cross the Rainbow Bridge, never again to be separated.

A Dog's Point of View

Ever wonder what goes on inside your dogs head? Here are a few guesses!

How to be Happy

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
Pure ecstasy is fresh air and the wind in your face.
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
When its in your best interest, practice obedience.
Let others know when theyve invaded your territory.
Take naps and stretch before rising.
Run, romp and play daily.
Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.
Be loyal.
Never pretend to be something youre not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
When youre happy, dance round and round and wag your entire body.
No matter how often youre scolded, run right back and make friends.
Bond with your pack.
Feel no shame about the natural fact that when you gotta go, you gotta go.

The Dogs Dictionary

Dog Bed: Any soft, clean surfacesuch as the white bedspread in the guest room or the newly upholstered couch in the living room.

Sniff: A social custom to use when you greet other dogs. Place your nose as close to the other dogs rear end and inhale deeply. Repeat several times, or until your person makes you stop.

Deafness: A malady which affects dogs when their person wants them in and they want to stay out. Symptoms include staring blankly, running in the other direction, or lying down.

Thunder: A signal that the world is coming to an end. Humans remain amazingly calm during thunderstorms. It is necessary to warn them of the danger by trembling uncontrollably, panting, rolling your eyes wildly, and following at their heels.

Wastebaskets: A toy filled with paper, tissue, and old candy wrappers. When you get bored, turn over the basket and strew the trash all over the house.

Sofas: Are to dogs like napkins are to people. After eating, it is polite to rub up and down the front of the sofa and wipe your whiskers clean.

Bath: A process by which the humans drench the floors, walls, and themselves. You can help by shaking vigorously and frequently.

Love: A feeling of intense affection, given freely and without restriction. The best way you can show your love is to wag your tail. If youre lucky, a human will love you in return.

New Years Resolutions

I will refrain from chewing on the coffee table no matter how delicious it may taste.
I will treat the food on the kitchen counter as if it belongs to my humans.
I will just quietly listen when I hear a dog or a doorbell on TV.
I will brush my hair before rubbing against my humans black wool suits.
I will wait and let others go out the door ahead of me.
I will lie quietly when someone comes to visit.
I will clean my paws and face before claiming the bed pillows.
I will keep my long tail away from table tops.
I will treat the water bowl as a drinking dish and not a splashing pool.
I will stay away from the toilet bowl.
I will resist the strong urge to roll in dead stuff.
I will wait until my humans open at least one eye before jumping on them as they lie in bed.
I will put my bones and toys in my own bed instead of hiding them in the sofa.
I will chew on my own toys and not on my humans expensive shoes.
I will be quiet between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m.
I will eat all my dog food, instead of just the choice bits and pieces.
I will stay out of the garbage.
I will wipe my dirty paws before coming in the house.
I will stay off the good sofa.
I will keep my toys from going under the sofa, the bed, and the refrigerator.
I will keep the nose prints off the window.
I will stay out of the cats food and litter box.
I will curl up on my own bed instead of the more comfortable human bed.
I will resist lunging out of the car window to grab the bag of hamburgers from the McDonalds lady.
I will pretend to really enjoy being coochie-cooed by a stranger.
I will come immediately when called rather than when I feel like it.
I will be thankful every minute of the day that I am loved, cherished, and admired by my humans!

Dog Humor

Dogs fill our lives with joy, love and laughter. Here are some humorous (and all-too-true) observations about sharing our lives with dogs.

If You Can...

..start the day without caffeine

..get going without pep pills

..always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains

..resist complaining and boring people with your troubles

..eat the same food everyday and be grateful for it

..take criticism and blame without resentment

...overlook it when those you love take it out on you when, through no fault of yours, something goes wrong

...ignore a friend's limited education and never correct him

...resist treating a rich friend better than a poor friend

...face the world without lies and deceit

...conquer tension without medical help

...understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you any time

...relax without liquor

...sleep without the aid of drugs

...honestly that deep in your heart you have no prejudice against creed, color, religion or politics...

Then you are almost as good as your dog, my friend!

House Rules

  • The dog is not allowed in the house.
  • Okay, the dog is allowed in the house, but only in certain rooms.
  • The dog is allowed in all rooms, but has to stay off the furniture.
  • The dog can get on the old furniture only.
  • Fine, the dog is allowed on all the furniture, but is not allowed to sleep with the humans on the bed.
  • Okay, the dog is allowed on the bed, but only by invitation.
  • The dog can sleep on the bed whenever he wants, but not under the covers.
  • The dog can sleep under the covers by invitation only.
  • The dog can sleep under the covers every night.
  • Humans must ask permission to sleep under the covers with the dog.

      How to Photograph A Puppy

      1. Remove film from box and load camera.
      2. Remove film box from puppy's mouth and throw in trash.
      3. Remove puppy from trash and brush coffee grounds from muzzle.
      4. Choose a suitable background for photo.
      5. Mount camera on tripod and focus.
      6. Find puppy and take dirty sock from mouth.
      7. Place puppy in pre-focused spot and return to camera.
      8. Forget about spot and crawl after puppy on knees.
      9. Focus with one hand and fend off puppy with other hand.
      10. Get tissue and clean nose print from lens.
      11. Take flash cube from puppy's mouth and throw in trash.
      12. Put cat outside and put peroxide on the scratch on puppy's nose.
      13. Put magazines back on coffee table.
      14. Try to get puppy's attention by squeaking toy over your head.
      15. Replace your glasses and check camera for damage.
      16. Jump up in time to grab puppy and say, "No, outside! No, outside!"
      17. Call spouse to clean up mess.
      18. Fix a drink.
      19. Sit back in recliner with drink and resolve to teach puppy "sit/stand" and "stay" the first thing in the morning.
      20. Consider buying an older, trained dog.

You Know You're a Dog Person When...

You have more dog beds, chew toys, collars, leashes, harnesses, and dog crates than you have dogs.

You meet other people with dogs, and remember their dog's call name after 30 seconds, but don't get the owner/handler's name until you've met them 2 or 3 times.

You don't think twice about trading licks of an ice cream cone with your dog.

Your parents give up on grandchildren and start to refer to your dogs as "your kids" or your children." (Bonus: they start to call them "our granddogs.")

90 percent of your Internet connection time goes to the dogs (seeing what's new when you enter your breed into the browser, reading up on multiple lists, checking out photos, sounds and FAQs, etc.).

You have hundreds of pictures of your dogs on your desk at work, in your wallet, etc., but none of your family or yourself.

No one wants to ride in your car because they know they'll get dog hair on their clothes.

You reach into your pockets for change, and liver treats, dog kibble, and pick-up bags fall all over. (Bonus: You've done this in a classy establishment.)

You've had long meaningful discussions with your friends on the best way to trim your dog's nails, but have never had a manicure or pedicure in your lifetime.

Books and movies are ruined for you if the dog references are incorrect.

The highlight of your day is spending time with your dog.

You watch simply awful movies because your breed is either featured in a cameo scene or there's a 3-second camera shot during a crowd scene.

All of your clothes have dog hair on them, even when they come back from the laundromat or dry cleaners.

The only thing your friends, colleagues, and passing acquaintances say to you when they see you is, "How are the dogs?" or "How many dogs do you have now?"

Your photo Christmas cards feature your dogs (humans optional).
